Keep on Goaling....

Well this year I have one major New Years resolution that I am determined to succeed with.  Do more buy less.   This blog will mark my progress.

The Do more part of my goal consists of several different things.  First, I love to travel, but do not have the time or money to go to all of the places I want to see.  I am constantly looking at travel sites and reading articles about interesting places to visit, and last summer I had a brainstorm.  I should start at home.  I have several books about things to do in and around Houston, so my sister Lisa and I have started to go on day trips every couple of months to places we have never been.  So far we have been to Rockport, Corpus Christi, and last weekend we went to Lake Charles, LA.

Another part of the Do more goal has been to start more hobbies that get me out of the house.   I am taking a photography class at the College of the mainland next week and have recently purchased a pair of binoculars to do some wildlife watching.  I would also like to purchase a better camera for long distance photos.  So, far our adventures seem to be more about driving, so I am trying to find places where we want to get out of the car.  I also have a bike and want to start doing more bicycling.  Lisa does not have one, so we have not started that yet.

One of my major obstacles with doing more is my weight, so I am also working on becoming a healthier me.  I have been going to the gym pretty regularly and have lost 15 pounds since December.  My new diet has suffered in March, but I am trying to pick that up again.  My sister Lisa and I have started taking spinning classes at the gym, in preparation of our biking dreams.
So, for the Do More part of my goal, I am doing pretty good in the first quarter.  However, the buy less is not doing so great.  I am buying less small frivolous items, but if you have not noticed I am buying too much for the Do More part of my goal.  To be honest I have not defined this goal as well which is probably why it is suffering.

In February Lisa and I went on a Cruise.  We loved it, but decided we would like to do something different for our next vacation.  Our plan is to drive to Yellowstone National Park next summer.   I am already starting to plan the trip, and hope to leave Houston on July 3, 2009 and head for Yellowstone.  We are hoping that other members of our family will join us, so I am also going to post updates of our trip plans, and any tips I find.

The first tip is that you can make reservations for next summer beginning May 1st.  The rooms in the park lodges go quickly, so if you want to stay in the Old Faithful Inn, plan on making your reservation in May.  However, if you cannot plan so far ahead, there are still plenty of nice places to stay that you do not have to reserve so far in the future.

Anyway, that is it for now, and next week I will let you know how the photography class goes.

Can I change your background? Or you could do it. There is a link to directions on my blog.

What if you, Lisa and I do some kind of weight loss challenge. The prize could be that the loser has to buy the two others dinner. I am willing to broaden this to other people but we would have to change the prize because dinner for more then three people would be a little to rich for my blood.

Anyways, now that I wrote a blog within your blog, I will say good night.
